If you’re a care giver for your kids or someone who is elderly or infirm, sometimes you feel overwhelmed and frustrated because there seems to be no end to the things you need to do and there’s no time to focus on your own needs. It seems no one really understands what you are going through. Jesus does understand and is here for you and offers many words of encouragement.

As a caregiver, you give of yourself with your whole heart on a daily basis. You find little time and energy to think about your own needs because of the overwhelming needs of the one you are caring for. Read Matthew 25:37-40, and you’ll see God is pleased with your efforts. You are doing a great job with the first part of His commandment to “love your neighbor as yourself.” Did it occur to you that, if you don’t see to your own needs for rest and recreation, you can’t really love your neighbor like you want to because you are so stressed? You see, taking time for yourself isn’t selfish. It’s loving, both to you, because you get a much-needed break, and to the one you care for, because you will be refreshed and better able to serve his or her needs. So, please, take some time and do something special for yourself, whatever that means to you.

Jesus knows how you feel and wants you to follow His example. His ministry was very demanding. When He couldn’t give any more, the Bible says in Matthew 14:23 that He went to a quiet place to pray alone.
