Just when I thought that I could relax the muscles in my face that held my eyebrows in a permanent raised position do to the torrid details of the sexual abuse and sex scandals that has plagued the church especially the Catholic Church here in the our country over the past few years. I see that the morally upstanding good old boys of our religious institutions are in the news again. Over the past two weeks or so I have been hearing of trail after trail of priest, pastors, and other members of the clergy that are being prosecuted for some form of sexual abuse or sexual misconduct or another. Most often the alleged abuse is against children and adolescences mostly males. That raises another whole issue but I will cover that at another time.

My belief is this country and many members of the religious community in this country have their agendas totally misguided. The religious communities in this country are so caught up with the practices of religious customs and traditions and preserving a long ago abandoned moral standard that the church is neglecting the most fundamental purpose for which the church was established. The fundamental purpose of the church is to ensure the spiritual health of its followers including members of the clergy. The church has been occupied with fighting against causes like Gay marriage and anti abortion that they are not paying attention to the very important spiritual needs of its followers especially the clergy. Sex and sexuality needs to be realistically addressed in the church so that it can start to do the things for which it was formed. There needs to be a real good look at the short comings of the church and it religious practices before they turn there attention to up holding the moral principles of the rest of the world.
