The Book Marketing Network

For book/ebook authors, publishers, & self-publishers

I know that this is my first book but, this experience has only frustrated me. My publisher does NOTHING to market my book, and I felt decieved by them when i looked at the contract. they made it sound like they helped with marketing. I am Very low on funds to market my book and with books sales low (because I have nothing to market it with) I feel I have wasted my time.
I AM AN AUTHOR/WRITER NOT A SALESMAN!!!!!!!
Therefor I am trying to figure out how to turn this around and get my book out there.
if any one can help, Please let me know.

Hello Dawn, same problem here. I tried both postcards and flyers, sending out thousands with no results. Joining writer's groups can help and meeting people on online blogs like Blogger and Live Journal can introduce your writing to other readers and perhaps some buyers. Ning has a number of writing resources. I've been at it for nearly two years trying to promote my book with Outskirts Press.
You just have to keep plugging away. I don't think there is any other solution.

Hi Dawn,
I can relate to your frustration. Some days are really tough. Did you sign with a small publisher? I think all of us start out thinking getting published is the hardest part. We assume that when our part, the writing and signing the contract, is done we can sit back and watch the sales take off. That just is not the case. It is very competitive out there. How long ago did your book come out? The only positive thing I can really say now is...the more you put in now and the contacts you make will help you later. But you have to be ready to work hard and promote yourself. Have you checked out John's website. He is the creater of this site and has a lot of great tips and resources for new authors. Don't let your frustrations get the best of you. If needed, take a short break form the marketing and then try again. I spend a lot of time online researching and emailing anyone I think may be interested in my book. Much of that is wasted, but I feel like it is worth it if at the end of everyday I spend marketing I make at least one positive step forward in my sales. Not just the number I sell (although that would be nice too) but another contact made in the publishing business. Be careful though. If you don't want to be a salesman for your book, your book will not sell. You have to find a way to put as much of yourself into selling your book as you did into writing it. I hope this helps.
