A New Female Detective to Add to the Ranks

Can you think of some of the female detectives and crime-solvers who have become known to us through books and on the screen (both large and small)? Nancy Drew has inspired thousands of young girls to become sleuths in their own neighborhoods. The two female leads in Cagney and Lacey developed such a loyal following that fans of the show engineered one of the first successful letter-writing campaigns to keep a program on the air. Angelina Jolie has had several roles in which she plays the lead crime fighter with whom no one would want to cross paths. And, who could forget Jodi Foster’s portrayal of a rookie FBI agent in Silence of the Lambs? Although, even in entertainment, law enforcement is predominantly a man’s world, the women are certainly making their mark. Through my new book, Compulsion, I am excited to introduce to another woman who is doing her part to make our streets safer.

Emily Stone works anonymously to collect the evidence that the police will need to capture the latest pedophile or killer to be terrorizing a neighborhood. She brings her camera, her state-of-the-art surveillance equipment, and her weapons, along with an amazing sense for the criminal mind, to scenes at which unthinkable acts have taken place. Once enough evidence is collected to secure capture and arrest, Ms. Stone mails her information to the police and then quietly skips into the shadows. Only after she becomes the target of one of the men she usually trails without notice does Emily find it necessary to enlist help in her efforts. The thrilling story that then unfolds will reveal even more strength to Emily’s character, as well as her human weaknesses to which we can all relate.

I hope that you will check out my new novel, Compulsion, and then let me know what you think about Emily Stone. And, stay tuned for the next installment to discover the next mystery that Ms. Stone must unfold.
