A Note From The Author of "The Flying Banana and Other Pennsylvania Transportation" - Sandy Sieber

A Note from the Author

Researching material about Pennsylvania for my books is so interesting. I especially liked reading about the state trains since my grandpa and my uncle were both train engineers. When I was learning about the milk production today, I revisited my childhood home in my mind. You see, I grew up on a farm. After reading about the state dog and the reference to the painting Best Friends, I found Violet Oakley’s paintings online. What rich food for the eyes! Learning is fun!

Teaching is one of my other favorite things. I love kids. The process of the mind interests me. And, from all the work that a teacher does, I love planning lessons the most.

That’s what this book is all about, lessons for learning. You can be a learner and a teacher, too, as you read these books and share your knowledge with others.

Who the Creators of This Book Are

Sandy Sieber holds both a Bachelor’s and a Master’s Degree in Education from Bloomsburg State College. She taught public school full-time but now works part-time as a substitute teacher so she can educate her children at home. She has published other Pennsylvania history workbooks called The Flying Banana and Other Pennsylvania Transportation and Archbald Pothole and Other Pennsylvania State Parks.

The illustrator of Sandy’s Pennsylvania books, Tad Sieber is her son and a 2009 homeschool graduate with a Pennsylvania Homeschoolers Accreditation Association (PHAA) Diploma. Tad completed the drawings as part of his high school senior year art studies.

Mrs. Sieber’s son, Matthew Sieber, researched and wrote the section on the ruffed grouse during his junior high school year.

Destiny Moyer, who did the cover design, is a friend of the Sieber family. She graduated in 2009 with a degree in graphic design from The Art Institute of York, Pennsylvania.

Even more people had a part in making this book happen. Mrs. Sieber’s homeschool evaluator, Marsha Hubler, who wrote the Keystone Stable Series, learned Sandy liked to write, invited her to a critique group meeting, and has been an invaluable help to Sandy ever since. Mrs. Sieber presently belongs to another writers’ critique group. Its members: Pat Parker, Judy Sharar, Edna Cravitz, Robin Feltman, Judy Gilbert, Brenda Hendricks, Gwen Jones, and Sally Coup, continually read Sandy’s writing, give her advice, and encourage her.
