Are You Having Trouble Writing a Book Proposal; A Book Review
If you are having a tough time preparing a book proposal, then what I'd like to do is recommend a very good book on how to write a book proposal. It's a book that I personally own, and highly recommend. The book is;
"How to Write a Book Proposal" by Michael Larsen, 2003.
Have you ever wondered how to put together a book proposal to send to an editor or book publisher? The reality is that these folks are not interested in buying books they are interested in what the book can do in the market to make them money. Therefore, your book proposal is really a business plan/marketing-sales proposal. Indeed, the author wants to make sure that you consider this. He also explains the value of test marketing, and how to choose the very best literary agent in going about getting a book deal.
He explained if you're going to do it yourself, or even if you're going to go through a book agent, you need to make a professional looking proposal package. If you make it too plain, it may get thrown out, if you make it too flashy, all you're going to get is laughs and giggles from the editors and publishers who are reading it and they will be thinking to themselves; "who in the hell does this person think he is anyway?"
The author also explains how to submit sample chapters, or samples of your work. He also explains the need to create an outline, and most of all he explains the changing industry of the publishing sector. He explains that things are not as they used to be, that we are in a new publishing paradigm, and how you have to deal with that and still compete with all the other proposals.
Indeed, if you truly want to get a book deal, you need to read this book, and purchase this book and put it in your writing library. Please consider all this.
