  ARE THEY WATCHING YOU?

#1 New York Times bestselling author Brad Thor set to unveil

startling secrets in his new thriller, BLACK LIST

On August 17, 1975, Senator Frank Church appeared on “Meet the Press” and

warned that American surveillance technology had grown so advanced, that if the

giant listening ears of the NSA were ever turned inward on the American people, the

United States would cross a line from which there was no return. According to the

extensive research that went into his new novel BLACK LIST, #1 New York Times

bestselling author BRAD THOR believes we are now crossing that line.

“We are entering an era of total surveillance. Every American’s ‘digital exhaust;’ all

their phone calls, text messages, emails, web searches, banking and credit card

transactions, online chats, tweets and social networking interactions are now

collected, analyzed and stored. Privacy, and any expectation thereof, is dead,” Thor

states. “I had to ask myself not only why, but what if…?”

BLACK LIST, Thor’s twelfth thriller, once again features Navy SEAL turned

counterterrorism operative, Scot Harvath. Reasserting his dominance of what is

quickly becoming known as “Faction,” Thor masterfully blurs the line between fact

and fiction to create an action‐packed, frighteningly realistic novel that looks at

what happens when Harvath is marked for death by his own government.

“My number one goal is to give readers an edge‐of‐their‐seat, white‐knuckle thrill

ride,” says Thor. “I love hearing how they just can’t put my books down. Secretly,

though, what I love the most is hearing how people read my novels with their

laptops open, only to be blown away by the extensive, real‐life secrets I reveal.”

Described as “Quite possibly the next coming of Robert Ludlum" by the Chicago

Tribune, lauded by Bookreporter.com as “The Master of Thrillers,” and hailed by

KKTX as “America’s favorite author,” Thor will embark on a 12‐city tour to support

his latest blockbuster.

About the Book

Release Date: July 24, 2012

Publisher: Emily Bestler Books/Atria Books

ISBN: 9781439192986

The reality is – you are being watched, and the volume of data being amassed by the government is so immense that the

National Security Agency has outgrown their headquarters and the electrical capacity of Fort Meade, Maryland.

As a result, the NSA has begun construction on a sprawling, $2 Billion facility, five times the size of the US Capitol

Building, in the desert outside Salt Lake City, Utah.

Known officially as the Community Comprehensive National Cyber-security Initiative Data Center, the Utah Data Center

or “Spy Center” as it is more commonly referenced, is completely self-contained, with its own massive electrical, water,

and sewage systems.

Among the ways this data is being collected:

 Radio Frequency Identification, or RFID tags are used to track everything from casino chips, livestock, and

bottles of shampoo at Wal-Mart, to pets and people.

 Smartphones and onboard vehicle navigation systems regularly spy on customers, providing pinpoint data not

only on where you are, but where you have been.

 A flaw in Apple iTune’s software has allowed police and intelligence agencies trapdoor access into user’s

computers for years.

 The NSA and Google are using the millions upon millions of Tweets, Facebook entries, E-Z Pass toll records,

Amazon purchases, cell phone data, GPS information, search engine queries and other digital breadcrumbs

generated each day to build the most sophisticated artificial intelligence system the world had ever seen.

Codenamed AQUAINT – Advanced QUestion Answering for INTelligence – the system is not only being taught to

think like a human being, it is being groomed to predict the way human beings think and even act.

 In a suburb outside Detroit, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is testing a new type of streetlight that

not only provides light, but also includes tiny, remote-controlled audio and video recorders allowing them to

listen in to conversations of anyone who walks or lives nearby. The streetlights also have the ability to x-ray

passersby to ascertain what they are carrying on their person.

Orwell’s 1984, Cruise’s Minority Report, and CBS’ hit drama Person of Interest all

share a secret that’s about to be revealed in #1 New York Times bestselling

author Brad Thor’s new thriller:

 DHS has outfitted unmarked vans throughout major American cities with large x-ray machines allowing them to

x-ray whatever and whomever they want - families in minivans, bakery trucks, school busses – without the

subjects’ knowledge or consent.

 Along with the FCC, DHS wants to outfit every cell phone in the United States with a special chip and “enhanced”

software that would allow the government to “locate” people anywhere at anytime in order to deliver “timely”

emergency messages and statements from the president during a national emergency.

 DHS is developing a device that can be secretly deployed at stadiums, airports, malls, and other public locations,

which was designed to “identify terrorist activity before it takes place.”

 Future Attribute Screening Technology – aka the “FAST” program, will scan the physiology of each person who

unknowingly passes by its sensors, recording, storing and analyzing their respiration, “electrodermal” activity,

and cardiovascular signature in an attempt to recognize “malintent” and alert authorities.

 The FBI is engaged in an all-encompassing, billion-dollar upgrade of its fingerprint database, known as the

“largest biometric database in the world,” which contains records for over a hundred million people. Instead of

just fingerprints and mug shots, though, the “Next Generation Identification” database or NGI will contain

searchable photos with face recognition technology, iris scans, fingerprints, palm prints, DNA, voice print

recordings, measures of gait, and detailed analysis of scars and tattoos
