CAN ANYONE WRITE A BOOK?

If you can write then yes you can write a book. Essentially, a book is just a bunch of words.  A better question would be can anyone write a good book? And then the answer would be a categorical no. But don’t let me discourage you. Chances are if you have a passion for writing then there is a reason for it. And usually passion is enough to create success.

SO YOU ARE READY TO WRITE

Begin forming ideas and jot them down. Make an outline if that works for you. Some people choose to simply start  writing with just an idea in their head. Whichever way you do it, it's perfect for you. You'll find that after the first sentence, ideas will pop into your head, characters will develop and it will flow. Just keep writing. Keep a notebook with you to jot down any ideas that come into your head throughout the day.

Don't become obsessed with errors; you can correct them later. You get the best stories by continuing on and not noticing them. If you keep looking at your grammatical errors, chances are you will want to change everything right away and will not continue on with your story.

Create a personal goal of an amount of words that you will write a day. I like to use the 1000 word a day rule. Of course you can always write more, but always stick to your minimum. It will help you keep focus on your story. Once you sit down to write, never stop. Just hit your goal. Avoid negative thoughts. You can always rewrite parts of your story later.

WRITER’S BLOCK

Sometimes writers are self-conscious about their writing. I think that this is the biggest cause of writer’s block. If you're preoccupied with the idea that your writing isn’t good enough, then it will be hard to let your ideas flow. The next thing you know, you will start obsessing about not having any ideas to write about. It’s really a snowball effect. It’s like waking up in the middle of the night and not being able to fall back to sleep. You tell yourself to fall back to sleep knowing that you have to wake up in 4 hours but to no avail you cannot go to sleep because now you're worrying about not falling asleep.

TIPS FOR OVERCOMING WRITER’S BLOCK

  1. Meditate. Deep breathing exercises are extremely powerful. With your eyes shut, watch your thoughts as if you are an observer. Don’t try to control them. Do this for at least 15 minutes.
  2. Use positive affirmations. They can help manifest your needs and bring positive and permanent change into your life. Positive affirmations reprogram your thought patterns and help to change the way you think and feel about yourself. You will replace dysfunctional beliefs with your own new positive beliefs. You will see positive changes in your writing with affirmations, but you need to do this daily to see results.

3.     Exercise often! Exercise helps to stimulate creative
thinking. A brisk walk or yoga will get the creative juices flowing.

4.     Eating regularly helps you to concentrate. Make sure you eat before you start writing
