Apple today released a slew of print related tools for their iPad, with their suggestion that the experience of the textbook has needed to be reinvented, to engage students in the process of learning.

There is one tool that was announced that is yet another example of Apple's constant work to make technology easier and better, iBooks Author.

iBooks Author allows you to create eBooks, with an elegant interface that allows you to build your books with the same attention to detail as it took to write the book.

Independent authors have depended in many cases on the stores they wanted to be in to have their book converted into the eBook format.

Using the application, you can "build" your book, with such fantastic features as allowing you to import Word files or Pages files straight into the eBook format, simple drag and drop interfaces exemplified by integration with programs like Keynote. Video and other interactive elements become easily integrated into your book's pages.

All for free.

All of the customizations are mind boggling… way more than I could go into in a quick post.

Just know that if you are a Mac user, and an author, this is going to change your future.

I downloaded it already. If you know me, you know I bleed Apple, so you know I downloaded it already, and I'll post my experiences using this new, fantastic tool.
