Ask any aspiring writer, he will tell you that how it is challenging to get published. Your writing should reach the right publisher or editor at the right time because there might be thousands of submissions waiting to be published. And therefore, your fine piece of writing might get lost in the massive stock of other's writing!

There are ways for getting your writing published. One of the best ways to get published is to be the part of a writing content. You may be charged some entry fees by the writing contest sponsors. Such contests offer something in return if you win. For example, your writing may be published or included in their collection or your work or manuscript may get published in their small press. Most writing content sponsors charge entry fees only because they have to defray their expenses. This can serve as a fine alternative for the aspiring writer to get published. It is good for them to get their writing published such contests rather than trying out with the mainstream publishers.

You can think of submitting your writings to your local newspapers because they are seeking new and fresh writings to run their press. Similarly you can think of getting your writings published in periodicals. So, it is fairly a good idea to get published in smaller publications which are always in search of good content from the local writers. Initially, you won't make money but you will certainly get attention and credibility by getting your writing printed.

If you wish to get published in a local magazine or journal, you need to know their submission rules and guidelines. You have to follow the rules hoping that your works will stand out from the hundreds of other submissions received by the publisher or the editor. You have to keep patience because it may take months to get your work approved for publication.

To publish a novel or a non-fiction work can be a challenging task for an un-established writer. You may consider submitting your manuscripts to a small press, but most of such publishers are already dealing with a number of other projects.

So, what is an easy option or is it possible to get published in an easy way? An aspiring writer can get his or her manuscript published through a self publishing or "vanity press" company. The total cost of editing and formatting the manuscript usually falls on the writer himself. But luckily, you can now self publish your books online using print-on-demand facilities available and get your dreams come true.
