Interesting Article Online Today in Canada News about Aboriginal Education

Of course any article or post with education in it is bound to catch my eye especially when it's involving Canadian education. I thought this article, although simply written and rather brief, was fairly informative:

http://ca.news.yahoo.com/s/cbc/100305/canada/canada_manitoba_mb_edu...

While I generally agree that have gotten a raw deal in terms of their educational funding I must say that an overhaul involving 200 million dollars is pretty respectable. Grand Chief of the Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs, Ron Evans, states that it "warms my heart".

The article claims that Canada has been funding post-secondary education for Aboriginals for ten years. Then it reveals that many Aboriginal youth have been overlooked by the system and are instead forced to sit on wait lists for years or attend college/university without any funding. Why this is the case isn't revealed or implied except to state that the feds are allocating funds for many areas of Aboriginal educational reform. Could it be that funds are being misappropriated amoung Aboriginal authorities? Or perhaps the feds aren't fully delivering on their promises?

That the Aboriginal education systems is in dire need of a drastic overhaul is indisputable. It remains to be seen when and how the federal funds will be used.
