Isaac & Sarah Martin Want You To Have "A Very, Very Special Mother's Day"

The husband and wife writing duo Isaac & Sarah Martin bring you a very special short story, one that could apply to any day of the year really.

It is Mother’s Day, and the Jenkins are just waking up before they have to get ready for Church. Mrs. Jenkins implores Mr. Jenkins before they get out of bed that he skip playing basketball with his son, sons-in-law and daughters’ fiancées and boyfriends. They have 7 kids, six of them girls and right now five of them are spoken for. Each time the family gathers the men go outside and play a pickup game of basketball as the women sit on the porch and observe the frenzy that they create. The rule of thumb during the game, “No autopsy, No foul”. The games get a bit heated but it is all in good fun, and they all take the beating they give each other in stride, usually with a grimace and a smile.

Mrs. Jenkins implores Mr. Jenkins not to play today. He took a beating the last game, and she would prefer not to have her husband beat up to much this day.

Mr. Jenkins response is that he will do it for her. They have been married for over 30 years, and sitting it out one game, sitting next to his wife and observing the game from the porch with all his girls and grandsons sounds nice. Not waking up the next day sore and bruised is another benefit.

But he has a thought, what if he, the oldman, didn’t play in the game, that somehow, the 18 year old version of himself (the same age as his son), played. Then all his kids could see how the oldman could play the game before all the injuries from the sports he played over the years, hard work and life degraded his God given talent and skills.

A small amount of vanity, a small wish, but who knows what twists and turns this dream and this vain desire bring with it.

This is an inspiring story of, forgiveness, caring, and inner peace.

We are throwing in a recipe for this story also, it is my world famous Parmesan Encrusted Chicken.

Okay maybe not world famous, but when I tell everyone I am making it, just about everybody in my world wants some.

Hi! First off my wife Sarah and I wish to thank everyone that has purchased our stories thus far. We are both humbled, happy and amazed at the response. We fully intend to deliver the best stories we possibly can and also have some great recipes for you. To date there are three stories, “Volume 1-TheEpiphany”,“Volume 2- Forgiveness” and “Volume 3- Atonement”, in the series we have started called “Amish Paradise”. The next one to come out at the end of May is “Volume 4- Giving”.

The name comes from where I lived, a bit of a play on words let us say. I grew up on a farm on Paradise Lane right off of Route 741 in what most people would call Lancaster, Pa. but really for those of us that got mail delivered there it is Ronks. The Strasburg Railroad is right down the street from us and the trains would go by our farm all day filled with kids of all ages wanting to experience the great steam engines and get a glimpse of the Amish life. People that enjoy railroads and train modeling are like that, kids no matter what age.

I often wondered while I was doing my chores what it would be like on the other side, what my life would and could be like as an outsider, not in Plain clothes. When I got my chance, I chose to stay out but have held onto many of the ideals and core beliefs my family instilled in me. It is part of who I am and what I choose to do. My wife Sarah is not from an Amish Family but once she met everybody she finally got to understand “me” and really got to see what helped make me tick. Where my thought process came from and where I got my work ethic.

The stories in our series are steeped in reality. I got permission from my little but bigger brother to fictionalize his life so he could be an example to others. Hoping that they will not make the mistakes he made, instead hoping they see that living with open eyes, mind and heart they will live a much fuller life and gain the grace and peace they seek with their Maker.
