Other than her recent foray into Sestinas, Judy Kamilhor primarily writes micropoetry. Her influences are the Japanese haiku masters and the comedian Steven Wright. She is a member of brevitas and a frequent contributor to CLWN WR. She has been published in Simply Haiku, Haiku Harvest, Amaze: the Cinquain Journal, and other publications. One of her poems was chosen for the Haiku Showcase by the World Haiku Club. Recently Zev Shanken's poems have been about aging, parents, sex and Jews. He teaches English at High School for Health Careers and Sciences in Washington Heights, and at Bronx Community College. In 1995 Blue Begonia Press published his chapbook, Al Het. He is a happy member of Brevitas, an on-line poetry workshop devoted to the short poem. He lives in Teaneck, NJ. At his reading at Tillies on October18, Zev will present Choral Poems in which the audience will be given texts to read responsively, like at church or synagogue or chain gang.
