Boy Meets Girl

“And what is your name?”
“Whew! I thought you were never going to ask. Did I scare you?”
When she didn’t answer, he said, “It’s Hydrew, spelled with a ‘y’. Please don’t laugh and always remember to pronounce the ‘h’.
“Some people just call me Hy. Which is as anonymous as you can get. ‘Hey, Hy! What’s up, man?’ He laughed, softly this time, more like a chuckle.
“Ironically, my parents imagined I would be somebody great – like a super athlete or a Prime Minister, so they thought I needed to have an unusual name – so they combined theirs – Hyacinth and Andrew.”
She couldn’t decide if he was joking.
“It could be worse,” he added. “My father could have been named Mendel or something such.”
She decided to be honest with him. “You know, I can’t tell if you are serious or not.”
“Oh, I am serious. Look at my face.” She looked at the face he was making and had to smile. “Just call me ‘Hy’, or, ‘Hey’ would do too, although I prefer ‘Drew’.”
