My Love Affair with European Authors and their Hard Work!

Other than my son-in-law, nobody in our family really enjoys Monty Python or Benny Hill. My daughters did make the recent Royal Wedding quite the event though. Hey, I have 7 daughters, remember?

The last six months or so though, I have come to grip with the fact that I have been trying to vary my reading as much as possible. I have even tried to read some romance dare I say it. Okay I just did. One thing that has become a staple of my reading has been authors from Europe. I don’t want to say just England, because they all don’t reside there; they also come from Ireland, Germany, Poland, Finland and a few other places, please forgive me if I forgot some here. Geography is not my thing; I just know they come from over there, in that area of the world (picture my finger swirling around a globe of the European area as it spins).

Why does The G-Man groove on the work of those that reside overseas? Very simple, their view of life and its foibles. They don’t seem to take it too seriously even when things seem to be unpleasant and life has dealt them a bad hand. They have that stiff upper lip and all that you know. The view, to me seems to accept the reality of it and find the silver lining, find that good thread, the light at the end of the tunnel. Basically for me it is the honesty and truth in what they write. Forgive me for generalizing but they seem to have a grip on telling it like it is in such a manner and matter of fact direction that it is hard to view it otherwise. The security and frankness of their depiction of life I feel lends itself to some of the best of the dark side. They know it is there; they embrace it and they can emote it.

I submit to you that this for that reason that they have some of the most talented noir/hard-boiled authors this planet has produced. They have the ability to capture those naked raw emotions essential to a read in that genre. Over the next two days I will feature on my blog six different stories by six different authors that are Best –Sellers in this category. It is going to be fun; I hope that you feel compelled to check out their hard work and I hope if you do, you enjoy it like I have. See you tomorrow.
