Platform: Citizen Journalists Prep For Tallahatchie County, Mississippi Live Town Hall

Family members celebrate the recent naming of a highway section for Birdia Keglar, a Tallahatchie civil rights activist who died in 1965 after her car was run off the road on her way home from a civil rights event in Jackson, Miss. Keglar had been targeted by Klansmen in the region for her frequent voting rights activities. The FBI has recently been investigating this cold case. Tallahatchie County has been known for Klan activities and violence against African Americans, whether or not they have been involved in civil rights activities. Photo by Susan Klopfer

People are really starting to pull together for the alleged victims of mob violence last week in Tallahatchie County, Miss.

Of course I am interested, because the region is where young Emmett Till was murdered Aug.28, 1955. I am currently writing a blog book on Till, Who Killed Emmett Till?, at http://whokilledemmetttill.com.

Ron Herd of Memphis is a bright, young citizen journalist who has been taking the leading in helping to organize people in their anger. So far, he’s gained the attention of the U.S. Justice Department, so I think he is getting somewhere. U.S. Rep. Bennie Thompson, who head the congressional Homeland Security committee, has weighed in, too.

You are invited to come witness history. Ron has planned a live podcast town hall meeting in Mississippi and you can learn more from the following posts. The event takes place at 9 p.m. Central time this Wednesday. I've put up links at my site, http://emmett-till.com and more information follows.
