The Amazing Adventures of Starr: The Missing Extra
By Jacky Rom
Hannah Montana meets Nancy Drew in a sensational new novel for audacious young girls.
Like every little girl her age, the bright and talented Starr Fox has big ambitions to be a hit in Hollywood, and sets off on a quest for fame with her bossy, ‘Sergeant Major’ stage mother. After plenty of pluck and determination the hard-working eleven year old finally gets her big break, landing the lead role in a movie called ‘The Secret’. Little Starr can’t believe her luck, and is quickly swept up in the excitement of the entertainment business. But soon after the cameras start rolling at the legendary Pinewood Studios, Starr discovers that more than just her acting skills will be put to the test on set. When one of the film’s extras suddenly goes missing, it’s down to Starr to get to the bottom of this mysterious kidnapping. And as trouble looms for her and her best friend and sleuthing partner Grace, will Starr even make it to the red carpet?

Jacky Rom’s delightful novel is a marvel of intrigue and girlish endeavor and is already capturing the imaginations of 8-11 year olds looking for adventure and an intelligent, thrilling read. In Starr Fox, Jacky has created a charming heroine that all girls can aspire to emulate: Starr is no spoilt stage brat; she’s a smart, considerate, inventive and loyal friend who’s determined to stay grounded and respectful despite her meddling mother’s best efforts to turn her into a miniature diva! The Amazing Adventures of Starr manages to skillfully inject this fantasy world of fame and fortune with a real sense of purpose, without ever loosing its magic and suspense.

The Amazing Adventures of Starr has an unrivalled sense of authenticity; children will be mesmerized by the behind the scene stories of the movie business, something of which Jacky has first hand experience after years of working in the industry. Many of the astutely drawn characters may just have been inspired by people that she’s encountered during her varied career!
