For book/ebook authors, publishers, & self-publishers

The average print-on-demand book sells 75 copies, according to Penny Sansevieri, CEO of A Marketing Expert (www.amarketingexpert.com).

Print-on-Demand is a manufacturing process. There are circumstances when Print-on-Demand makes sense as a publishing strategy—at the beginning or end of a book's life cycle or as a bridge between print runs when a book's demand exceeds expectations. For most, however, selling 75, or fewer, copies of a book is unacceptable because most authors want their message to reach a wider audience.

I have tried it all including having been quoted an expert and have been heard on many radio stations.
In hind site, I wish I had not self published with print on demand. I was also very disappointed in the promise to make it to Barnes& Noble book store shelves if I had a returnable policy. They won't shelve my book until I have sold many books making it worthy.. However, it urks me to know end that people who don't even write their own book, are on the shelves in a heartbeat. I can go on, but it only frustrates me. My goal this year is to get on National Television. I beleive this is the best way to make the book sell in large numbers. I am considering reviewing my contract with AuthorHouse to see if I am near a point where I can send my manuscript out to well known publishers to pick it up, especially since it has won an award for women's issues.

I guess my book hasn't done to bad, I have far exceeded the average sale of a new book. I went on the radio and advertised in about 5 News papers and had several book signings. I also put it in some of the local stores and book stores, camp grounds and sent everyone I new a notice that I had written a book. Linda

Over the life of the book.

Is that 75 a week, 75 a month, 75 a year, or 75 for the life of the book?

Question? How many does the average self-published book sell?

Congratulations on beating the average! How many books have you sold?

I guess I have well exceeded the average.

And you are right. Those sales numbers should be much higher. More of the authors should be reading:

That average of 75 copies is probably high. I don't think anyone has an accurate number, but 75 seems high to me (from my informal surveys).
