Profile: Brandon Ellis, author of The PureLights of Ohm Totem

A native of Portland, Oregon, Brandon Ellis started reading adventure tales and writing stories at an early age. Back then, his favorite book was Tom Sawyer. He was fortunate to grow up with a father who read to him almost every night, and nurtured by a mother and grandmother who, like him, were deeply creative in the arts.

But it wasn’t until a year ago that Ellis took the big plunge to become an author while keeping two jobs in the areas of massage therapy and massage therapy instruction. “It’s been a fascinating ride, to say the least,” he says.

His first book, The PureLights of Ohm Totem, is a young adult fantasy with elements of magical realism about two kids who embark on a journey into another world, Ohm Totem. “There,” describes Ellis, “they uncover truths about themselves and discover long lost memories that were hidden deep in their minds. The more they discover, the more they find incredible talents and abilities within themselves—magic that very few in that world possess. Along the way, they learn how to be a loving brother and sister to each other, something they knew little of back at home. But, a terrible thing is coming. Something that can destroy them and the rest of Ohm Totem.” Eventually, the young protagonists’ special talents spark an entire revolution that eventually save the island.

Ellis creates his imaginative worlds in a small office with a rather large desk, white walls with no pictures, and a guest bed behind him. “I have to keep this place organized to help the energy of my writing.” His ritual before sitting down to write? He jumps on a mini trampoline for fifteen minutes to get the juices going, then spends some time meditating, asking for help and guidance. Then it’s write, write, write.

The PureLights of Ohm Totem took him about a year to write. He passed it on to five proof readers, two proof editors, and one senior editor before he published it on Amazon Kindle.

“I’m doing something I love,” says Ellis. “There’s not much else better than that.”

Currently, the author is in the process of completing book II, which should be done, edited, and placed on Amazon by the end of July, 2013.

Ellis is sending a copy of The PureLights of Ohm Totem on Kindle (mobi), epub, or pdf to the first fifty people who agree to read it and post a review on Amazon before July 27th, 2013. Just go to www.thepurelights.com, click on CONTACT, and send the author an email if you’re interested.
