Review for My Recent Read ~ The 'GREAT' Kickin' Dog: a family tree by Kenneth Crutchfield

The 'GREAT' Kickin' Dog by Kenneth Crutchfield is a story about John Coleman Sr., with a large family to feed, an unstable wife and shattered dreams. The book is about a typical dysfunctional family and how John tries to survive while battling alcohol addiction. Being an ex musician himself, he sees the potential in his two boys and try to get them into the industry. While he travels everywhere to land them gigs and their chances improve, things get complicated on the home front thanks to mental illness that runs in the family. How John handles the family issues, what happens along the journey and more are part of the book. This is a story of a determined man who tried to make ends meet, tried to change things around for his family and also try to put out fires at the home front.

What happened along the way? Did he manage to succeed? I love that this book is loosely based on the author's life and experiences. The story is well-written and the characters are vividly laid out, keeping the reader hooked to the story throughout. It's highly charged, moves at a good pace and the intensely gripping lot makes you want more. I read it in one sitting as I was not able to put off the book once I started. So, grab your coffee and some cookies and settle in for the journey.
