Steve Estes has been senior pastor at Community Evangelical Free Church in Elverson, Pennsylvania, for over twenty-five years. His most significant life achievement was persuading college classmate Verna Stoltzfus to marry him in 1974. They now have eight children.

Steve’s books and other writings began with his longtime friendship with Joni Eareckson Tada. As teenagers, they grappled with why God allowed Joni’s paralysis in a swimming accident in the Chesapeake Bay. Steve left for college . . . they kept in touch . . . she liked the style of his letters. When her 1976 autobiography Joni spawned thousands of reader responses, she asked Steve to join her in crafting a follow-up. The result was A Step Further in 1978. Later, Wycliffe Bible Translators commissioned Steve to write the biography of former college friend Chet Bitterman, a Wycliffe linguist who was kidnapped and murdered by political terrorists in Colombia in 1981. Other books and articles followed.

Steve was educated at Westminster Theological Seminary in Philadelphia, the American Institute of Holy Land Studies in Israel (now Jerusalem University College), and Columbia Bible College (now Columbia International University). He is a board member of the Christian Counseling & Educational Foundation and teaches a course on preaching at Westminster Seminary.

A Better December: Proverbs to Brighten Christmas

Know someone FRAZZLED this December?    Know someone SAD this holiday?

Know anyone IN THE DARK about the point of Christmas?

. . . Want to light up their tree a bit?

A Better December casts ancient King Solomon as a farsighted author who penned his famous Proverbs to coach modern people through the stress and melancholy of the Christmas holidays. With a zippy style and playful mood, Steve Estes’s little volume moves from the sage’s clever holiday tips to a gentle but compelling introduction to the One behind Christmas. It is spread with poignant, but not sappy, true stories. Pint-sized and pen-and-ink-illustrated, A Better December is intended as a book to give at Christmas.
