The Story Behind the Story of A DARKLY HIDDEN TRUTH

Every writer is asked it all the time: "Where do your stories come from?"

The journey to writing my clerical mystery A DARKLY HIDDEN TRUTH, The Monastery Murders 2 was a long one, beginning with a pilgrimage I took to 17 ancient sacred sites in England and Scotland in 2001--taking one of the first plans to fly out of Boise after 9/11.

That pilgrimage included visiting the churches of two medieval women writers Julian of Norwich, the first woman to write a book in English, and Margery Kempe, who wrote the first autobiography in English (even though she was illiterate). I finally got to tell their stories as my modern American heroine Felicity searches for clues to find the stolen Russian icon and the murderer of a dear friend.

Rash and headstrong as ever, Felicity learns that even in the most frantic situation one sometimes needs to be still and listen to the wisdom of ages past to solve present dilemmas.
