The struggles of writing while raising a family

Hi, I'm Helen Dobinson, author of Ancient Destiny. My journey with this book has been eventful and wanted to share some of this with other writers.

Trying to write while raising two kids, wasn't easy. Getting creative and wanting to write things down while two small people demand your attention. Trying to upload your book to pc when they want feeding. Because you know, dad doesn't always get it right and mum knows best and they aren't shy to point that out.

You can't always time when and where you get inspired, so you have to get creative and quick at making this happen. Jotting down between playtime, food time and nursing after falls.

Most would say to do this on a night, but you can't plan out writing and when you get your ideas.

So you do your best to make both worlds work.

I evntually did, I even had to rewrite my book as back when I did it, I was saving on the old school floppy drives and one wiped itself! Had to rewrite my entire book. So my book took extra long to write.

But then, that is not the end of the journey,, next is finding publishers and/or literary agents. I also had to reach out to places such as The Princes trust to get help with funding.

During all this my kids went to school, my husband was at work and I had to deal with the home, taking them to and from school and meal times. But I spent as much time as I could writing and researching.

Eventually I did find a publisher and the aid came from a compnay my husband worked for. They were called SES and was a business start up company. A company my auntie also worked for and helped me take my next steps in this.  I got the funding to get it published and also got a trip to London for the London book fair for help with research. My children at that time stayed with their grandparents as we stayed in London.

It was a great experience.

After all this, my book was published and the kids were proud and I proved to myself I could do it.

It was a long journey, but worth it in the end, the book is out and the kids were still tended to.

Thanks for reading
