those simple times . . .
they were simple times
in simple days
with simple people
and simple ways
no complications
between me and thee
we talked things over
or we’d imply be
brothers were brothers
and friends were friends
when strife arose
we made amends
i wonder what happened
to those simple times
when nickels had meaning
and happiness was dimes
now we can’t get enough
and we vie for much more
we sell enlightenment
like a spiritual whore
i know the way
to make you ascend
abundance in dreams
as your spirit i rend
oh the simple days
too soon forgotten
i must be in Denmark
for something is rotten
every new day
resolution we seek
advantages for me
as we eat of the meek
oh those simplest of days
we used to live
all that we had
we were willing to give
for brothers were brothers
with neighborly love
in these days and times
i often think of
those simple times . . .
