For book/ebook authors, publishers, & self-publishers

An alert for Indie authors. Online Barnes and Nobel's Nook program is open to self published authors. I received an email and immediately enrolled. I've downloaded two book. In the coming days, I'll be downloading the rest of the books I've written.
I still have a book to edit and hope to get that job finished soon so I can get it published. This is a Stringbean Hooper Western titled Small Feet's Many Moon Journey. I'd like to get that out of the way before November. I'm entering the NaNoWriMo contest again this year. Last November I was away from the computer too much and didn't get enough words written to stay in the contest. This time I hope to do better, and I really need to get the next book done in the Nurse Hal Among The Amish series so that's what I'm going to work on as an incentive. Readers kept letting me know they want to read about Nurse Hal's Wedding as soon as possible.
I've always said that I do things in the order that I have to do them, need to do them or want to do them. The latter being the one that I'd prefer but gets done last if at all. This last month has been busy with events other than writing, but when I look back I have to say doing what I've had to do I was able to call a labor of love.
First was a baby shower. I always make and hand stitch the quilts for the newborns in the family and friends, too. By the time I found out that this baby was a boy so I'd know what theme to use, I had two months to design and stitch. I just barely finished the project before the shower September 11.
Two sister-in-laws and I planned a special 90th birthday celebration for my mother-in-law. I was in charge of advertising a card shower. On her birthday, we had an ice cream and cake family night. Each of us bake a cake to take. I took the time to decorate my cake so we could use it in a picture with the birthday gal holding it. As long as we were all together I took pictures of each family with my mother-in-law. Then two days later we put together a lunch at the church for congregation and family. I'm the official family photographer. Don't know how that happened. As soon as the celebration was over I downloaded the pictures and went online to make mother-in-law a photo book plus three more for her two sisters and a brother-in-law. That took hours longer than I thought it would.
I found out the birthday gal was more popular than I had thought. I didn't get her nearly enough plastic sleeves for her scrap book to put the cards and letters in. So that meant a trip to town.
A week ago on Tuesday when I usually make my blog posts, I accompanied a relative for her chemo treatment. This is a session that takes several hours so we were there early and until noon. While I kept busy trying to empty one of the coffee pots, we noticed some crocheted hats in a box with scarves dangling down the back of each. The nurse said they were free. The one my relative picked I was able to take a pattern from while we sat there watching the slow IV drip. Since then I've made thirteen hats in the evenings. Now I have to find the colorful scarves to wind into the hat band. Making those hats is something I wanted to do. By the next treatment my relative can fill the box back up with some colorful hats for other ladies after she has taken her pick of the hats that is.
Add to all that a trip last Thursday to the chiropractor because my back had been bothering me for two months. My back was out in three places from catching an 80 pound lamb and unloading two wagons of hay but who's counting except for the chiropractor. He says I'm the type of patient he calls job security.
Frost was predicted for Saturday and Sunday night. I had flower pots to bring in and carry upstairs and huckleberries to pick which if you don't know is something akin to a blueberry. I must admit I did grumble about stooping to pick the berries since I was suppose to be careful for 48 hours. I asked my husband if he was sure he really liked huckleberry pies. He grinned as he said no. Then why am I bothering to pick the berries? He said because you planted them. Might have known that was coming. He'll eat the pies when and if I make them.
Yesterday when I should have posted my blog again, I went to the chiropractor again. I do feel better so I think it's just a matter of time until the last of the swelling goes down. As usual I waited too long to go get the treatments. Then we went to visit my mother-in-law. I wanted to give her all the relatives and friends pictures from the 90th birthday parties and her plastic sleeves for the card. While I was there I tape recorded more of her story so I can get started with writing that book about her. The more she tells me the more interesting details escape from her memory that she's never mentioned before.
I've spent quite a bit of my time in September looking for relatives and dates online to add to my mother-in-law's family tree to put in the back of the book. I found that a want to do job. I love family history and enjoyed reading stories about many of the relatives from a 100 years ago. Those stories will go in the book for her grandchildren to enjoy. Thanks to other people who shared their information online, anyone interested in making a family tree can find out fill out a lot of their branches. When I've shared with my mother-in-law some of the information she has been interested. I think she's going to like that part of the book better than the first part since the story is about her.
So there you have the reasons why September came and went much too fast for me.
