Born in 1961, d’Philip is the father of three children, has been happily married for 15 years and lives in a suburb of Chicago, Illinois. He has dabbled with music, video and film; he has been a promoter, manager and producer. He even drove an 18 wheeler truck across country for a while, but always, throughout his life, d’Philip Chalmers has been a writer. “It’s what I do, it’s who I am, dig?” he is fond of saying, “I can’t help but write!”
A self admitted manic depressive, Chalmers walks heavily through the steps of Kesey, Thompson, Steinbeck, Vonnegut and others. Although with little formal training, d’Philip has developed a unique and clear voice to define life in a bi-polar reality. In his first novel “SCHLEP”, published by The Intrepid Editor Press, he expresses the frustration and realization of learning to live life according to your goals, dreams and desires. Told in a journal format, for the most part, this epic road trip travel book follows Izzy Koatz as he makes his annual trip to sell his ideas to Hollywood. Along the way, however, he meets Josie Wails, an 18 year old Zuni princess who helps Izzy see, through all his trials and tribulations during this crazy road trip, his own self worth is through real love. “SCHLEP” is presently available through amazon.com or dphilip.net.
Additionally, d’Philip has several completed screenplays available, another three books in the works (due out in 2010 & 2011) and contributes an almost daily blog here at www.blogster.com/dphilip where you’ll find a lot of other short stories, examples and excerpts from his books and screenplays or just random, everyday thoughts he might sometimes share.
