I would like to add that many, many people have great ideas and stories to tell, whether fiction or non-fiction, but they don't write because their grammar skills are sub-par. I urge everyone with an unction to write to go for it and find a great editor with whom they can work. Writing without a "real" editor—and your best friend's cousin who majored in English or journalism is usually not one—is like eating jelly without bread. It will soon make you sick and land in the waste bin! I very commonly get work from people who tell me their friend with a journalism degree looked over their work and approved it. I question their GPA. Even if you are a "gifted" writer, a real editor is the best investment you will ever make if you are truly serious. And always ask for references!
