Ebooks: How do you make it happen? Where do you start?

Ebooks seem to be big online. Has anyone had success with Ebook? Can an Ebook from five to 100 pages really sell from $10 to $100 dollars, depending on the information? How is this done? If you have practical experience and know-how in this, would you point me in the right direction? I need to know how to make two of my books, published in English in the traditional way in Turkey, become Ebooks. Thanks for any help.

Hi Charlotte,

I have just published an e-book, so the jury is still out as to how beneficial it is.

Here is what I learned in putting together my e-book:

 Make the print larger than is the case for a regular book. There are arguments for serif and sans-serif type. I chose the serif (Times Roman and it looks very good, in my opinion).
 I converted my Word document to a PDF file. There is some discussion that the file should be encrypted, but as one person said, “If they want access to your document, they will find a way. And all of the hassle with keys is not worth the trouble.” So my e-book is not encrypted. You can convert a Word document to PDF for free (limit of five documents) at http://createpdf.adobe.com/
 With regard to Marketing your e-book, some choices are payloadz.com, clickbank.com, lulu.com and/or on your own website. At this time, I am promoting/marketing my book from my own website and using paypal.com for the payment see http://www.renewal.ca/5stepaction.html I will explore the others when I have some free time.
 With regard to what to charge, I find the over-hyped, high priced e-books of little value. This is just someone trying to make a quick buck at your expense.

Hope this helps.

Roger
Thanks so much Roger for the information. I will research it more with the leads you gave me. If you discover anything else pass on the info and best wishes with your e-book.
Thanks, Roger, for the tips and links to research. I will do my homework. If you discover any other helpful information please share it with us.

Hi Roger! Hope things are going well for you. Have you come across any other helpful information? Are you happy with Paypal? Stay in touch. Best wishes to you.
Actually, it's quite simple it seems. Write up the ebook; turn it into a pdf file, hook up with https://www.payloadz.com/.. (please use that link) and you're good to go. Payloadz will automatically send out the ebook; let you know you've made a sale and money goes to your paypal account. There's nothing more fun than passive income ~ well, almost nothing.

I've got both my books out as ebooks. The Smoothie book sells way more as an ebook because it's smaller. The other I sell as a soft cover.

I'm also taking an ebook course. If you are available to listen to the free teleclass on Wed., the 26th, they've got a LOT of information on how to make money with ebooks. The call in number is: 646-519-5860 and the pin: 9930. IF by chance you choose to take the course, please do me a favor and call Jamie at 732-761-9930. (After reading this I called to find out if they have an affiliation/referral program. They do. If you don't choose to do it, no harm. Just letting you know it's available.) I am currently getting into a few things as I feel it's time to create LOTS of income with what I do and get the word out to others about how to do it as well, or at least point them in the direction of people who've already done it.

Only because I'm lucky to have someone who knows how to do this. I've got the two books out and, because of the podcasts, they are selling but not like I'd expected. Re-doing the smoothie book so it's got more health information in it. Took the free teleclass and signed up for the 8 week course... Thank you for the details. Maybe others who read this will also be interested. Best to you!
You're very welcome and thank you for inviting me to be a friend. I can't invite anyone else as I'm over my invite limitations and not taken the time to delete those who've not responded. So happy to have you as my "friend".

I'm currently cleaning up my area and making room for all the new stuff I'm doing. Leaving on Thursday for Loral Langemeir's workshop in Va. and getting my "Cash Machine" up and running. Already spoken with one of her facilitator's and he said I've already got the idea.. just need to tweak it and get it working for me!

Oh! just from the free ebook teleclass I did, I got some great ideas!!! They may be up on my website over the weekend. Have to keep himself home and out of trouble while I'm gone, yanno? :D

Always,

Jimmy D. Brown has a good Special Report that outlines how to do this, how much to charge, how to write the copy, etc. Get the report at http://www.wordstoprofit.com/srf_5steps.pdf. I find Jimmy's information very accessible and worthwhile.

I just wrote one on "Choosing Your Best-Selling Book Title" and I'll keep you posted as to what happens when I put it on sale. Just have to write the sales page!

Re: creating pdf files: I found that the free Open Office Writer program has an pdf creator (you choose "export as PDF" from File menu) that includes clickable links and no advertising, like some of the other programs. You can find it at www.openoffice.org. This is a lot like MS Word. What I do is create in Word, save, then open in OpenOffice Writer and then "export as pdf."

Hi Diane,
Thanks for all the useful tips. You are right about Jimmy's information being very accessible and worthwhile.

Let us know when "Choosing Your Best-Selling Book Title" is available. We are working on creating an ezine and will let you know when it is launched. Appreciate the valuable information you shared. Best regards!
Thanks Diane.

I have no idea what you said about Word being on a Mac and totally pc illiterate. All I do for creating pdf is hit "print", then "save as pdf"... I think. Why I hit "print" first, I dunno but that's where itis!!

Thank you for the link.
