51 Ways to Blog as a Novelist

We all know that blogging is one of the best ways to get attention in today's Internet world. A blog is a godsend to your website, bringing it traffic, fans, and more. But you have to post regularly.

Stuck for what to blog about? Here are some tips for novelists, but the same tips can apply to writers of nonfiction, memoirs, children's books, business books, and more.

  1. Review other novels, especially from other lesser-known novelists.
  2. Write a blog post using the voice of one of your main characters.
  3. Have that main character tell some side stories not included in the novel.
  4. Write about the setting - time and/or place. Use some of the research you did to ensure that your novel was accurate.
  5. Invite your readers to review your book. Feature their testimonials on your blog.
  6. Interview some of your readers: via Q&A text or via an Internet radio show or via a teleseminar.
  7. Podcast your book, one section at a time.
  8. Write about trends in your genre.
  9. Write about your favorite novelists, especially those that write in your genre. Include their photos and a sampling of their books.

Hi Milton;
May you soon finish the Meji Book Two. And good luck with it.

I haven't been here for a minute but I plan to do better. Meji Book Two is almost done and I have plenty new projects coming. I'm picking up my local marketing; that's where I really sell books. The internet has fallen far below my expectations. I'm printing with Lightning Source to take advantage of their distribution plan. I'll work my local bookstores directly to set up signings once I know my books are available. Check out my photos for my new book cover and a few illustrations based on current and upcoming projects.

Welcome Gene. It is always good to be part of something especially when we all want the same thing - to be successful.
John Kremer's idea of a group of authors reviewing each other's work is a good one. On my wordpress site (gladyshobson.wordpress.com) I have briefly reviewed books we have read at home. John Silkstone's book about his army days is very good. Geoff Nelder is a top writer, Slim Palmer's books are great too And not forgetting Brian Porter's award-winning Jack the Ripper books. (These are UK authors). Andrew F O'Hara's book of short stories The Swan, Tales of the Sacramento Valley is a great award winner. But I have also reviewed many books by well-known authors - most good, some bad! Alas, my hubby has to read to me these days. So they have to be books we BOTH enjoy. The problem of books here is that they are mostly USA authors which puts up cost enormously. That is a problem for me selling to the USA - but I have mainly solved that by having some of them published by AGPress in the USA. But there are already groups which do this - Goodreads for one.
