51 Ways to Blog as a Novelist

We all know that blogging is one of the best ways to get attention in today's Internet world. A blog is a godsend to your website, bringing it traffic, fans, and more. But you have to post regularly.

Stuck for what to blog about? Here are some tips for novelists, but the same tips can apply to writers of nonfiction, memoirs, children's books, business books, and more.

  1. Review other novels, especially from other lesser-known novelists.
  2. Write a blog post using the voice of one of your main characters.
  3. Have that main character tell some side stories not included in the novel.
  4. Write about the setting - time and/or place. Use some of the research you did to ensure that your novel was accurate.
  5. Invite your readers to review your book. Feature their testimonials on your blog.
  6. Interview some of your readers: via Q&A text or via an Internet radio show or via a teleseminar.
  7. Podcast your book, one section at a time.
  8. Write about trends in your genre.
  9. Write about your favorite novelists, especially those that write in your genre. Include their photos and a sampling of their books.

The past weekend for actress Thomasyna Tollefson has not been a pleasant one. Wasn’t a good one for Dr. Stephan Deverill, DVM either.

Not only has Stephan’s cousin Charley Ascott run off with most of Thomi’s money and a good deal of her dignity, he’s run off with Stephan’s fiancée, Aveleen Hallwell—leaving Thomi with nightmares and deep, deep regrets, and Stephan with a dilemma and a determination to beat Charley at his own game.

Plainly, there’s only one way to accomplish that—charm Thomasyna out to dinner, into an engagement . . . and ultimately marriage.

With Thomi, he would have a much better chance at meeting the terms of his grandfather’s altered will on time. For certainly she’d have no wish to be in Charley’s company again in her lifetime!

Entirely true. But then, she hasn’t any wish to be in Stephan’s either! A handsome face, sweet, sweet smile, eyes the color of a summer sky and a fascinatingly hypnotic voice that could charm a cobra up the sharp side of a butcher knife could only mean more drama and heartache!

The only drama she’s interested in now is Littleton-by-the-Sea’s Summer Benefit play; the proceeds of which will allow the family of frail seven-year-old Jaimee Shaine Kelmann to seek further treatment for her serious heart condition.

However, a riding accident and a lengthy hospital stay open fresh opportunities for Stephan to storm her defenses. His gentle, yet firm, persuasiveness, his infinite patience, besides those other obvious charms, begins to take her wall down, brick by brick. Indeed, the exasperated hospital staff and a few members of her family believe this man could be a life changing miracle for her.

Thomi’s torn between that belief herself and that one of he can’t possibly be different from her former suitors. He’s Charley’s cousin after all!

Just as she’s giving in to her Heart’s desire, tabloids begin hitting the stands, offering the world their speculations and views about Thomi’s newest relationship . . . leaking “secret” information Stephan has so far withheld from her.

These new developments threaten to interfere with Thomi’s involvement with the summer benefit play.

With her Mind and her Heart at war, her loyalties become hopelessly divided.

Should she stand with her man and declare finally to the public that she is truly irrevocably in love with him?

Or ought she to stay with the play because, after all, she’d sworn a Big Time Promise to Jaimee that she would without fail star in this production in her honor before she’d ever met Stephan?

If these things weren’t enough to scramble her brains, Thomi learns that there are other issues at stake here, more complicated than simply saving Papa Ascott’s fortune from going to the wolves.

Most assuredly, it’s a situation of damned if she gives in—damned if she does not . . .

The enemy that lurks within us all ...
The Enemy Inside: Reflections of Me by Bill Balbach speaks of unforeseen calamity that can strike. Our attitude plummets, or suddenly a harmless pastime becomes a destructive habit.
Overwhelmed by the consequences of a broken world, we look for someone or something to blame, while the real enemy lurks inside. We are all victims of a fierce battle that wages within our hearts.   Could it be that we’ve lost our true identity in Jesus, only to find ourselves in a state of spiritual isolation?
Author Bill Balbach takes an aerial shot of David and Saul’s journey, providing an intuitive glimpse into the inner difficulties we all face as we try to free ourselves from selfish ambition and to give the full authority of our lives to Jesus.   It’s time for us to be honest with the enemy that lurks within us all—sin—as we let go of our self-will and embrace God’s powerful will through Jesus. - A must read!
You may get your copy of The Enemy Inside at AmazonBarnes and Noble or in Kindle. Be sure to visit Bill Balbach at My Self Defined for more information.

Hi everyone,

Today I’m sharing a look at my new Medallion Press historical western, LIES, LOVE & REDEMPTION. This full-length novel is set on the Nebraska prairie in 1877 and blends a steamy romance with mystery, and danger.

Here’s the summary:

Lies, Love & Redemption

Shot and left for dead, Sam Hixton stumbles into a general store on the Nebraska prairie and collapses into the arms of Cassie Wilcox.

Cassie’s world is turned upside down when the handsome stranger drops into her life. Sam is another complication she doesn’t need: her business is dying and her trouble with the townspeople is escalating. Yet she’s determined to keep the store open — no matter what the cost.

As Sam recovers from his injuries, he hides the truth about his identity and convinces Cassie to let him work in the store. He’s attracted to her and admires her independent nature but quickly realizes Cassie’s in way over her head. They fight their growing attraction, and Cassie questions whether she can trust her fragile heart to a mysterious stranger. Will he accept her once he knows about her troubled past?

Cassie resists Sam’s advances and represses her feelings until one fateful night when they give in to their fiery passion. Together, they work out a plan to save the store but find their efforts are thwarted—and their lives endangered—by the locals.

Sam’s secret returns to haunt him and pulls him away just when Cassie needs him the most. Will he regain her trust when she learns the truth? Cassie has everything invested in the store—can she save it and find true love with Sam before it’s too late?
