Cole’s Perfect Puppy by Frances M. Crossno is Book One of the Perfect Puppy series. Written for young readers, (ages 7-12), this book teaches core Christian values through a delightful, compassionate and sometimes humorous storyline that parents will love. Cole and Caleb are brothers. Their parents are photographers for a world geographic magazine, thus they live with their Uncle Bobby. Cole, the main character, desperately wants a puppy for Christmas. He finds the perfect puppy, but finds out along the way that hard work, treating others right and loving your neighbor as yourself are more important than his own wants.

 

Chapter one begins as Cole finds and falls in love with the perfect puppy (Scarlet), which is a golden retriever that he finds in a mall pet store. Packed with action, the little puppy escapes from the pet store and after a wild chase, young Cole and the mall security guard finally catch up with the fast pup.  Christmas morning comes and Cole is elated to find a “moving” present under the tree. To his utter shock, his Uncle Bobby has gotten him a quite a different present. One he was not expecting! His little brother Caleb can’t stop laughing as Cole finds him on the floor in an unstoppable belly roll. (You’ll have to read the story to find out what the pet was.) The story goes on from there as lessons are learned by the characters. The author gives help and hope from a Christian perspective that relate to life’s sometimes disappointing circumstances that can be overcome.

 

This book comes highly recommended (and is an award winning book) that offers clean and wholesome reading for children and preteen readers. Themed with a simple storyline that is encouraging, innocent, well-written and sheds light on the Jesus, salvation and the scripture, “Give and it will be given unto you . . .” parents will appreciate this adorable book. The humor is much appreciated, as well as the author asking the question, “What would Jesus do?” Thus leaving room open for discussion. A wonderful story that teaches some valuable life lessons!  

 

*This book would be a great gift for the Christmas season, but is recommended for any time of the year.

Ever been disappointed with the casting selection when your favorite book is made into a movie? I would like to invite authors and book lovers to check out a site where you can "cast" your favorite books. Maybe together, we can influence Hollywood to make the right movie adaptations.

Oxana Eliahu shares her incredible autobiography in her book, The Destination. With dreams of making it to America to find wealth and success, her story is captivating. Born in Leningrad, Russia (now Saint Petersburg), Oxana was a Russian born Jew. Confused about her identity as a Jew, Oxana at one time became a devout Communist, which was the expected norm within Russia. Growing up in a Communist country, as the reader will experience, was not a walk in the park. Some days they had to wait in long lines for hours just to get a few bananas, some berries and some decent clothes. In regards to the subject of religion, Oxana wasbrought up in a secular atmosphere where there was no talk of God in her household. Believing in evolution, her opinion was that people who trusted in God were primitive. Her only exposure to God was through old books and pictures she saw in museums. God in His sovereignty reveals His unending love for Oxana and that becomes an unforgettable journey of redemption to her God-given destiny.

Then in the 80’s Jews were beginning to be released from Russia. She found herself in Italy as a refugee, seeking a country, but no country would have her. Russia considered her a traitor and Italy would not allow her to work or gain citizenship. Her Visa to America was denied and she found herself hopelessly lost with not enough money to survive. Her story is incredible, filled with anticipation, as she describes her experiences, the persecution, her resolve through the doubt and the heartbreak to The Destination, and how she was once a Russian citizen, a Jew, now without a country or place to call “home.”
