51 Ways to Blog as a Novelist

We all know that blogging is one of the best ways to get attention in today's Internet world. A blog is a godsend to your website, bringing it traffic, fans, and more. But you have to post regularly.

Stuck for what to blog about? Here are some tips for novelists, but the same tips can apply to writers of nonfiction, memoirs, children's books, business books, and more.

  1. Review other novels, especially from other lesser-known novelists.
  2. Write a blog post using the voice of one of your main characters.
  3. Have that main character tell some side stories not included in the novel.
  4. Write about the setting - time and/or place. Use some of the research you did to ensure that your novel was accurate.
  5. Invite your readers to review your book. Feature their testimonials on your blog.
  6. Interview some of your readers: via Q&A text or via an Internet radio show or via a teleseminar.
  7. Podcast your book, one section at a time.
  8. Write about trends in your genre.
  9. Write about your favorite novelists, especially those that write in your genre. Include their photos and a sampling of their books.

Hey all! My first book came out earlier this year. It is available here:
http://www.amazon.com/Notes-Aurora-Society-Jim-ODonnell/dp/07414510...

Walk 1500 miles through Finland. From the islands of the Baltic to the Arctic coast, this work of travel literature looks at the Finnish people through their connection to the natural world.

I'm currently struggling to begin my next book, a novel, about archaeological treasures based in Switzerland in the 1990s.

The Medallion is the first book in a series about two sisters in the middle ages.

Here is the back cover blurb:
This medieval fantasy follows the lives of Alana and Anwen, two sisters from a peasant family who enjoy their peaceful lives until raiders attack. The hamlet burned to the ground, their parents murdered, the girls are left to survive alone. The only object Anwen could rescue is a mysterious medallion which once belonged to a wizard.

Raiders capture, rape and enslave Alana, ultimately selling her to another criminal. Sick and broken she finally escapes and ends up at an inn where she begins to see a glimmer of hope for a better future.

Anwen struggles to her grandmother’s village where she is trained in the healing arts. She is tormented by visions of her sister in the hands of the raiders. She begins to suspect the medallion has powers that will help her find Alana. Anwen eventually goes on a quest to discover what the symbols mean.

The Medallion’s characters face their challenges with determination and courage. Will Anwen discover the secret behind the Medallion? Will Alana find a better life? Will the sisters be reunited?

This gripping and extensively researched historical fantasy of human courage in the middle ages focuses on a fascinating time in history due to upheaval that can change things in an instant. Adult fans of Marion Zimmer Bradley’s work will enjoy this story about strength and ingenuity of women from ancient times.

Since childhood the author has been a fan of fairy tales and magical stories. Anwen and Alana have long moved the author’s spirit to tell their story.

Thanks for reading,
Sunni

Hello Everyone.
My third novel came out early this year: Martian Divides. It's the third in what I hope to finish as a four part series, called the Martian Symbiont series. In the first novel, Been Blued, an advanced group of people return to Earth because a space virus has wiped out their women. Yep, the aliens are after the womenfolk...although they're very nice about it. In the second book, Martian Blues, a human underground that doesn't think it's being treated fairly stirs things up while the rest of mankind and the Martians try to prepare for a hostile alien invasion. In Martian Divides the Martians have decided to return to space. Much to the dismay of the underground many of them are staying here and even demand a successor for the Martian matriarch they'll be losing.

Good morning! I just joined and wanted to introduce myself. My debut novel, Soliloquy, a time-travel romance, will be released January 15, 2010 by The Wild Rose Press. I'm hard at work on a new SciFi novel as well as a narrative non-fiction. If you have a moment, I've uploaded a book trailer for Soliloquy and my website is www.janetfogg.com. Looking forward to getting to know you!

I just found out my Civil War novel Shades of Gray received a 4-star review in Romantic Times magazine (December issue). I've not really marketed it as "romance" (though it is a love story), so I'm very excited!

Today I taped an interview about "The Seeds of Love...and War: Still Shaggin' for a Shillin'" at a local NBC TV station, in the costume of John Hancock, a main character in the novel. As a note to historical fiction authors, I should emphasize that the only reason I got the publicity is that the host wanted "Hancock" on the show. These days every author needs a hook and your historical characters are there to help.

Again, we have organized a "Historical Fiction" group to join on this website.

Hey everyone. I am not an author, what I am is a book reviewer...I get about 300 views a week (right now, I am still growing) and would love to review some of your books on my blog (www.bibliophilicbookblog.com). Its an off the cuff blog, so its not all drawn out, but I still get good viewers and buyers. Thanks! Contact me: mojo09226@yahoo.com
