“Breathtakingly beautiful, not just in the prose, but in the immense sentiment.”

It’s not typical that your author would speak to you directly from this platform or without first adopting the voice of the omiscient third-person narrator. I know there are a number of more lurid tales beckoning to you from other book flaps and jackets and, yes, you’re a busy person. So let me get to the crux of the situation: about the time I turned fourteen years of age, and not more than a few months after my Bar Mitzvah, my so-called “coming-of-age” experience, I learned that my dad was not my biological father, that Mom had been married to someone other than Dad, and that my older brother and I were the products of this failed first family.
Imagine being called by your mother into her bedroom to have her sit you down, and in a single dramatic confession, rewrite the paternal half of your history. While I cannot expect you will fully grasp the fury of thought that flashed through me in that moment, the experience was like that of blinking my eyes only to have the furniture about me, all that I’d grown accustomed to seeing, in an instant swept away...and to find I had been thrust into a parallel universe with rules I didn’t then apprehend. The fact is by the time I had reached this episode in my life, I had grown into a World and into a Self and into a series of sometimes Grand Expectations that were upon learning this strange new fact put into striking existential question...the answer to which is what this story is all about.
