Clark's Eye on Books

Profile Information

Something About Me and My Book:
Well, we now live in a nearby community to the mountain top. It is closer to town and also is better for traveling to the local community college where I now am a member of the faculty teaching several different classes. It is really enjoyable to teach once again and give back some of the things that I have learned through the years.

I write review columns with an audience which has developed into about two million readers. I have written three non-fiction books for the legal market. Also, am working on one fiction book for the last 10 years which keeps changing as technology changes. I still read about 3 to 4 books per week and review on one or two each week. My able assistant or co-author is my wife who has developed into a good reviewer in her own right, but desires to stay behind the scenes.

Clark's Eye on Books

Many authors have requested that we post our address here for book reviews. This is not a promise the we shall review every book which is sent to us; however, we will review the book if it has promise and is worthy.

      Address: Clark's Eye on Books

                     7791 E Pioneer Dr

                      Kingman AZ 86401

We have requests to send E Books, Kindle or other brands, we do not review electronic books.  They do not have the feel that regular book has.  Hardcover books are expensive to make and sell for writers who are doing self publishing and we understand that.  However, after having experienced a number of different books and styles a few tips:

Reviews do not want galleys or un-edited books from self published authors. Try to get decent copies which have been cleaned up to them.

Books which have been published by regular book publishers are going to carry some baggage with regard to their needing a few things cleaned before final publication.  Even books by self-published authors will have some errors and these re expected.  However, when the book is just thrown together and in an effort to get it out there it is published too soon, this diminishes what could have otherwise been a good book.

Paperback are acceptable if they and their hard cover relatives are no more than a year old.

Recently I read an article which stated that the best life of a book is in the 6 weeks immediately after its initial distribution to book stores.  Now, they were refering to regular publishing houses and not self pubs.  I  would guess the beginning life of a self pub is a bit longer as the author is finding out how to best distribute the book. Just be careful not to go into two or three years down the road and still treat it as a new book.

Be sure to mention who you are and where the post is coming from. We get a lot of books direct from the publishers as well as from the authors directly.

Thanks,
and good writing,

Clark
