Something About Me and My Book:
I edited my first manuscript 20 years ago, and I've been hooked ever since. I hold a BA in English and an MFA in Creative Writing, and I've worked for both indie presses and the Big Five. I prefer a good romance tale, but my editing touch has helped improve everything from dystopian YA thrillers to heartrending memoirs. Books I've edited have found their way onto various bestseller lists and received numerous awards.

I'd love to edit your work, and I look forward to doing so soon. For more info, please visit my website or email me at kbostonedit@gmail.com.

My rates:

Copy editing/Proofreading - $0.01/word

This isn’t your average, ordinary proofread!

Through my copy editing services, I’ll perform a thorough proofreading treatment of your manuscript, including:

- Catching and correcting any grammatical and typographical errors
- Reducing sentences and phrases as needed
- Removing repetitious words, lines, and other text
- Addressing any larger, more significant issues

The main goal of my copy editing services is to prepare your manuscript for final publication. That’s why I go the extra mile to make any applicable rewriting and revision improvements. I’ll also provide you with a brief summary of other issues that can be addressed to help improve your work (for example, plot and character development, story structure, etc.).

Line editing - $0.02/word

My line editing services include two separate rounds of work on your manuscript.

1st Round: I’ll perform a quick, yet thorough review of your manuscript, identifying any major issues that need improvement (for example, redundancies or inaccuracies in the text, maintenance of tone and voice, general story analysis, etc.). My comments will address the major issues in your work that can benefit from some rewriting enhancement.

2nd Round: I’ll perform a comprehensive line edit of your manuscript, including all of the following:

- Sentence structuring and clarity
- Improving word selection
- Plot development
- Dialogue strengthening
- Final proofreading

After both these rounds of editing are completed, you’ll have a cleaner, more enhanced manuscript, ready for final publication.

Developmental editing - $0.03/word

Through my developmental editing services, I’ll address such major issues as plot development and inconsistencies, character improvement, story structure, and the overall presentation of your work. This is a detailed, intense level of editing that could involve significant rewriting and restructuring, but it’s all designed to make your manuscript as strong as possible.

After I’ve completed my developmental editing treatment of your work, I’ll perform a full line edit and proofread of it to enhance your manuscript further and make it ready for final publication.

You don't need too much "order"...

Hey guys!

Helpful editing tip: cut "in order to." Instead of saying you're going to the kitchen in order to make a sandwich, just say you're going to the kitchen to make a…

Do You Really Need All Those Semicolons...?

Hey guys!

Helpful editing tip: remove extra punctuation. A powerful hyphen here and thought-provoking semicolon there can be effective, but a story riddled with all sorts of punctuation (parentheses, colons, ellipses, etc.) doesn't flow well. You can often eliminate these extra pieces of…

Helpful Proofreading Tip: Separate

Hey guys, another helpful proofreading tip: separate your text into individual sentences. This will help you read each sentence carefully. To do this, just press the return key after each period so every line begins a new sentence, then read each sentence separately, spotting grammar, punctuation, or spelling errors as you go.

Hi, Ms. Boston. Thank you so much for inviting me to be your friend here. I've been trying my hardest to market my book called Gadarian's Magic. If you're interested in reading it, it is available only on Kindle ebooks. If I can sell 100 copies, it can be available in print. Also, I could use some help spreading the word and getting it out there. I'm asking people just like you to help me out. The book doesn't cost much. It's only $3.99. I know a lot of people would love to read it. It would be so awesome if you could help out. Thank you.

Hi, Karen! Thanks for inviting me to be your friend here.  I actually have not done a thing on this site.  I haven't invited anyone, a lot because I don't know how it works and somehow it got lost in the shuffle. My book was edited by Feral House, the publisher. They had it done by two editors.  I still did find a couple of errors. For instance, I had written "dancing on pointe" (a ballet term), but it came out as "en pointe" because I think the editor believed it should be in French. But I'm not sweating it. It's not that big of a deal. Editing is very subjective, don't you think?

Hi Karen,

Sorry your name is getting beaten up these days!  I happen to know and very much like a few ladies named Karen.

What style guides are you proficient in?

Our proofer extraordinaire, Paige, is now a mom and taking time off.  We only publish two to four books per year (as of now), but an experienced, credentialed proofer is a must for our program.   Please check us out www.callingcardbooks.com. If you like what we do, let me know and I'll send you something small to edit.

We just pulled Paige and a couple of other gals, who've helped us over the last couple of years on a 1099 basis, off of our website.  All three ladies have wonderful things happening in their lives now, and we're so proud to have been a part of their journey.  I like having our extended team on the website to help them and us.  Also, it's important that our readers and prospective authors know that quality is vital to Calling Card Books and Z Girls Press.

I look forward to hearing from you.  Thanks for the friend request!
