Something About Me and My Book:
"Using Beauty and her Beast to Introduce the Human Shadow" is a work of graphic non-fiction -- a beautiful look at a serious subject.

written by Kay Newell Plumb
illustrated by Bob Hobbs

"Using Beauty" won a BRONZE MEDAL in the 2009 Independent Publisher Book Awards, in the Self-Help Category.

"Thanks for writing this book. It is a gem and a treasure!"--Robert Johnson, PhD, Jungian analyst and author of "Owning Your Own Shadow"

"Hats off to you for doing a wonderful job of making a distasteful subject so entertaining."--Katie Sanford, PhD, analytical psychologist and author of "The Serpent and the Cross"

"I like your enthusiasm for the shadow."--Robert Bly, poet and author of "A Little Book on the Human Shadow"

"What a handsome production!"--Ursula K. LeGuin, National Book Award winner, Hugo and Nebula winner, Newbery winner

"While skillfully retelling a familiar tale, this book obliges the reader to look at life through a sharpened lens, to regard the "beast" within ourselves and the "beast" within our culture; obliges us to see that beneath the surface, deeper and darker energies are spilling into our lives."--James Hollis, PhD, executive director of the Jung Educational Center in Houston, author of "Why Good People Do Bad Things"

2010 Silver Medalist

USING BEAUTY just won a 2010 Silver Medal in the Inspirational/Spiritual category from the Young Voices Foundation. Their goal is to identify and honor books that inspire, mentor and educate youth. I don't have the artwork for the award yet, but I'll put it up on here as soon as I do.
