Something About Me and My Book:
If I had written an actual memoir, it would have been titled Scorpio Rising. Rather, I penned, Blessings In The Mire, following the untimely death of my son. I know, I know, a lot of mothers write a little prose as therapy when a child dies; but none of them owned an "angel" store PRIOR to their child's death from suicide. Blessings in the Mire is a raw look at the depths of despair to the heights of insanity. It is a candid and emotionally charged, often controversial book that causes conversation. What more could an author hope for?
On a rosier note, I have recently completed 2 new books! My first fiction book is, The Flying Game. Although it's fiction, it's a book that can change your life....
The other book, Escaping the Chrysalis, is a self-help 'gestalt' centered nonfiction book that also has the power to change your life through techniques traditionally reserved for the professional. It is my opus, and I am quite excited for its publication.
Other than that, not much happening ;-)
Oh, but do check out my new website: http://JanDeelstra.com where I give away FREE stuff all the time!

It's no SECRET that viral marketing works!

I am fairly convinced that the power of viral marketing has catapulted The Secret to some wonderful heights. My only question is this: How do I expose Blessings in the Mire to the contagion?

Hello, Jan. I started a group called San Diego, California Writers. I invite you to join and welcome you. One day, I hope to gather the members, if there are enough, to perhaps participate in a small book fair.

Welcome to the network, Jan -- Your book sounds extremely touching and I imagine it was very painful for you to construct. I wish you the very best and look forward in learning more about you.

Welcome Jan
I'm sure your book was hard to write. When I was 17 I attempted suicide myself and was in the hospital two weeks and almost died. What I saw my parents go through I swore never to do that again.

About twelve years ago my youngest son attempted suicide by slitting his wrists....I was called the emergency room and begged him never to try that again.

It's horrible to lose a child. I've lost two sons one age 43 and my youngest one last year at age 37....neither was suicide but they are still gone. I don't have any sons left only three daughters. I also wrote my story A Mothers Torment www.amotherstorment.com and it was so hard to bring it up to date until last year but I finally got it done and out there.....being a mother isn't always easy....

Anyway glad to get to know you Shirley
