I was a journalist for 40 years. Worked on papers from Seattle to NYC,
the last 30 years on The Buffalo-Courier-Express and then, when it folded, The Buffalo News, where I covered unions and the auto industry and had a weekly labor column. I have written two books, the first one, The Despised Poor, was favorably reviewed by the New York Times and other newspapers, as well as several national magazines. The current book is about growing up a bastard and being raised by a couple, the father with relatives in the Mafia. It is meant to be entertaining. The book also tells stories about reporters and editors on the newspapers for which I worked.
I have also written several plays, won a playwriting fellowship from the New York Foundation for the Arts and won several national play contests.
Two of my plays have been published, one in AwardWinning Plays from the Stage & Screen Book Club, the other, God's Minstrel, by a British publisher. Most of my plays have been produced in NYC and surrounding commuinities, also in Virginia.
I also wrote part of a series of articles which won a Pultizer Prise for the Gannett Group.
