Zoe Dawes "Quirky Traveller" (Cumbria) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Lost Angel Walkabout (Paperback)
So enjoyed this book. Linda has a really engaging way of writing and manages to change the style and tone of her stories depending on the circumstances. I was fascinated to read of her adventures in Canada and America; Alaska, the Yukon, New Hampshire,…

I know. I know. In my last post I said AFTER was finished. But then last night I received feedback from a woman on the opening chapter. She said that it was great except for a few miniscule details, like one sentence in the wrong tense and changing a word. I wouldn't have taken the advice so seriously except that this woman was a bona fide LITERARY AGENT and she gave this advice free and willingly on her own time. Obviously by the detail of the critique she had spent some time on it, even…

People tell me at times I appear to be busy. That might just be perception, but to set the record straight and not toot my own horn here I will give you a rundown of what I really have going on here so there is no confusion and I have all the cards on the table. Here goes:
One thing I am really proud to be a part of is what is happening for Laurie Bowler right now. She is part of a contest on Goodreads that is trying to pick the best YA novels of 2011. She has eight of her titles…

Things are moving right ahead for my fellow collaborator, Big Daddy Abel. What is he up to you ask? Pretty much a lot, here is a list of stuff he has on his plate tell me if you don’t agree. He currently has just released Volume Three of his highly rated and best-selling Open Mic Series. Open Mic Volume One rose as high as #20 in his Kindle category for Humor/Essay in sales and stayed at a steady #3 in ratings with 39 five star reviews. Pretty impressive, huh? Open Mic Two has sold well and…

He Kan’t Kill Your Future – Review by Martha A Cheves, Author of Stir, Laugh, Repeat
‘one day, one of the men who worked at that cab place started driving by me in an old-fashioned station wagon with curtains in the windows. He would just keep circling back and forth very slowly, watching me. Everywhere I went, he would pop up. I would…

Sixkill rules! I want to take a different tact with this, as I am huge fan of the author‘s work. Okay he passed away, this is his last work, yes, I am sad. But instead let’s celebrate this last work for the fun and frolic that it is. No Hawk, total bummer, but he seems to have had a plan with that, maybe the new author will take it to new heights, a new resurgence with a fresh approach and set of eyes on the characters. I have read every Spenser novel , yes every one, and have enjoyed each…

Think of the reader’s eyes as a scanner and the reader’s brain as a search engine. The eyes are the external collector that sends raw data from the printed page to the processing center deep within the reader’s head. That internal search engine makes continual and critical decisions as to what bits of input are more interesting than other bits. What is it that causes certain bits to rise to top of consciousness?
Keywords.
Let’s apply this concept to the characters within a book. Each…

For Mother’s Day I was lucky enough to be receive The Tudors DVD box set (and I didn’t even hint that hard!) So this morning you would have found me ironing along to Season Two…with tears streaming down my face. Anne Boleyn was executed. Say no more. An extremely moving episode, which is perhaps why, when it came time to write my blog post, my mind turned to thoughts of beheading… and the guillotine.
Where was the guillotine invented?
a) …

When it comes to hard things in life nothing holds you together like the women who care for you.
You can have an understanding father, a loving husband, or a dependable brother, but nothing pulls you through like a mother, a sister, a daughter or a female friend.
There are no words to explain it, they just do. Nothing holds you better than…

MY PRAYER ON THIS NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER
Lord God your sunsets and moonlit nights tell my heart of your majestic beauty.
Your rushing rivers and crashing oceans speak of your awesome power.
The snow covered mountain tops and lush green valleys let me capture a glimpse of heaven’s majesty.
Flowers, trees and all the plants of the field breathe and exhale a sweet fragrance upon this wonderful earth you’ve created.
Every star and…

Does anyone have a favourite ever literary character? Just the other day I got to act like one of mine, the veritable Atticus Finch. What a character. I have an extensive legal background, and I know guys whose decision to become lawyers was formed after reading 'To Kill A Mockingbird'. Anyway, when I'm not writing, I work as a carer, mainly for the elderly. Bit different from law, but certainly rewarding. This is until I make it big as a best-selling author, heh-heh! There's a lady I…

This was a great week to read this novel. Leo Maloney and his character Cobra, are very patriotic guys: doing the right thing for the right reasons. The story is emotional, raw and intense. I love a novel that wears its heart on its sleeve, makes for a good read. Let’s get right to the action shall we?
“Leo J. Maloney, former Black Ops contractor, penned this action thriller novel as a quasi-memoir about the dark but arguably necessary side of intelligence that the…

I wrote last week's rant a few weeks ago during the time I was attempting to find reviewers for "Night Shadows." At the time, I didn't plan for this to go any further than one blog. However, since then, I've taken on a new assignment: reviewing books for Suspense Magazine, a monthly Internet publication. You can find more details about the magazine at www.suspensemagazine.com. I've agreed review a couple of books per month. If you're…
