A member of the network asked how the Book Marketing Network got around to using my little photo as an icon in the browser link for this website. Ning does this automatically. Well, at first I didn't know, but I researched it and uncovered how to create such icons.
If you'd like to create a browser icon to show up when people visit your website, you can add the following code (next paragraph <...>) in the header section of your HTML code for each page you want the icon to…

The key to marketing anything is building relationships. Part of creating and nurturing great relationships is giving thanks. Appreciate those who help you. Be sure to let them know that you value their help.

I've received some complaints from members of this network that they are getting multi-level solicitations and other off-topic promotions. Please don't do this. It's the one sure way to destroy a network.
Keep your email, blog posts, and discussions focused on books and authors -- you and your book, me and me book, us and our books.
Thanks.

A blogger recently posted the following blog entry about my book,
1001 Ways to Market Your Books:
But the main purpose of today's blog entry is to disagree with potentially dangerous advice. In the section on getting book reviews, John urges that writers "send books as early as possible -- preferably four months in advance of the book's publication date."
I can't see how it's possible to schedule when (let alone if) a book review will appear. I'd sure hate to… Continue

What could you do with 5 to 10 million new visitors to your website? You could sell thousands of books. You could generate an email list of thousands and thousands of avid fans. You could build a top-rated website that allows you to generate on-going income for years to come. You could dominate the organic search results from Google, Yahoo!, and whatever else comes along. You could change the world. It is your choice.
John Kremer's next Ten Million Eyeballs Event will be held in…

I found this interest little tidbit in a book review of Billion Dollar Lessons by Paul B. Carroll and Chunka Mui. Sometimes if you want people to do what you want, you have to give them a big stake in the issue:
After World War I, more than 75 percent of U.S. Air Mail pilots died in crashes on the job. The mortality rate was eased only when the Postal Service required the managers who ordered pilots out in bad weather to go along for the ride.

In a recent teleseminar, I shared the following 10 things you can do in the next week to sell more books. Here is a short summary of what I covered:
1. 90% of marketing efforts are wasted. This is not a bad thing. Learn how to use this insight to set better priorities.
2. Book marketing is all about creating relationships. The only reason to hire a publicist is to hire them for their relationships. Ask, “Who do you know?” It’s all about creating…

I am having to cancel the Ten Million Eyeballs Event in Boulder, Colorado, due to a problem with our landlord and the next door tenant for the townhouse that my wife and I reside in right now. Because both the landlord and the tenant are irrational people, I really have to stay here during this time to protect my wife from harm.
While this might be bad news for those of you who wanted to take the Boulder course, it's good news for the rest of you. I will be making the Ten Million…
