Youth Football in Derby, CT inspires a book by Steve Reilly

On Thanksgiving Day in 1991, Derby (Connecticut) High School's football team, the Red Raiders, faced their rivals. The outcome of that game, would change Derby, Connecticut and youth sports--forever.

"The Fat Lady Never Sings" is the story of three high school seniors who were members of the Red Raiders football team, which lost after 28 winning seasons. Ben Bartone, Donny Shepherd, and Gino DiMauro join the baseball team the following spring, hoping to redeem themselves on the baseball diamond, knowing if they can't, they will go down in Derby's history as losers.
