For Valentine's Day, he brought me roses...again!

Ungrateful, pitifully so…that’s what I am. Hubby walked in this morning and on my desk, he placed a large vase filled with long-stem roses. (I forgot to ask what color they were.)

"Here, to the beautiful girl in my life. Happy Valentine’s Day." He gave me a kiss.

Sweet, isn’t he? The only thing is that I’ve told him, very gently, I might add, that roses are great, but since I can’t see them, it’s kind of a waste of money.

I hinted, suggested and down right told him, instead, to get me an outfit, gift certificate to a spa, etc.

But, he insists on roses and dinner out.

At the risk of you shaking your head with disbelief at my rude, cold, and unappreciative capriciousness, let me tell you yet another area in which I’ve shown the same selfishness, immaturity and self-centered whims.

The Lord insists on handing me the gift of confidence, yet traces of insecurity filter through. He hands me His grace, yet I look to please Him by scurrying through tasks. He repeated He’d be my companion, yet I worry about facing tomorrow alone.

He said He’d calm the seas and quiet the storms, yet I tremble at the thought of impending adversity. He hands me the gift of His Word to guide me, yet I grab the white cane of my own ideas, plans and desires to move forward.

You see how I need work in accepting the roses hubby brings me? And worse yet, fail to enjoy the fragrant gift the Lord places before me - the same one He puts before you too!

When feeling downcast, anxious, stressed, or lonely, He’s handing you a bouquet of fragrant, trustworthy, and sweet promises, ones that last, and ones that prevail through dark moments.

With the kind of love we’ll never understand, He whispers the same reassurance He promised to Zion: "Provide for those who grieve in Zion - to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the LORD for the display of His splendor" (Isaiah 61: 3).

Will you allow Him to shine His splendor on you this Valentine’s Day?

Janet
