Spiritual Harmony and the Land

I don’t know about all of you but the forest fires that are going on in this nation are making my spirit ponder a couple of things. The first thing that troubles my spirit is the frequency of the forest fires that have been occurring in our nation over the last few years. When I see the increasing news coverage of the forest fires that are ravaging California and other parts of the mid west in this country I am can not help but remember that in the last several years forest fires have been a major news item in this country. The resulting property damage, displacement of people and forest damage has been occurring very often. It seems to me that news clips that show sections of a forest on fire with a house being soaked with water by fire fighters to try and save it is a common scene. The next thing that made my spirit wonder was the intensity of the forest fires that have been occurring in recent years. It seems that the news coverage that I have seen show the fires are becoming larger ad larger. The fire fighters that are battling these fires have reached record numbers. I think that the thing that the problem is that Americans have been breaking a very basic ecological rule. That is the rule of respect. This country has not been respecting man of its natural resources. The selfish need to build bigger and acquire more property has put many of our natural resources in jeopardy. The problem is this is being done with out any respect for our resources especially our forest. Its more than a conservation effort because you have to preserve things that you are in jeopardy of losing. If Americans would practice respect for its natural resources from the very beginning stages then conservation would be something that does not have to be done.

Our ancestors knew that there was a spiritual harmony that exists between man and the earth. The first step in them keeping this harmony was respect. Today we have disregarded this harmony. One of the results is the Forrest fires that are going on now.
