What an irony...my hometown, La Paz, means "The Peace."

Sigh. Everything but peace rules there, especially lately. Though the beauty of its majestic mountains, the loving people, the tasty food, lively music, simple life style still tug at my heart, sorrow also frames my thinking.

“We want a change!” Bolivians clamored before the election two years ago. And change is what they got—a president who holds beliefs contrary to God’s precepts. And to add to the destructive ways, he readily caters to the same values that drove Cuba and Venezuela down.

A flood of speculations, opinions, demands, and assertions fill Bolivia’s news day after day. They make me dizzy. So, risking other’s criticism, I’ll assert my own bold, political stand. Individuals and nations all want peace, prosperity, and purpose. The way to achieve it was no secret to America’s founding fathers: Lift God’s Word as the standard, the ruling precept and the guide to govern a nation. The result? God’s abundant blessings and the formation of the most powerful nation on the planet.

And even when during the last few decades, we’ve detoured from Biblical principles, God is still merciful and patient.

A nation is like a man’s soul—when God is excluded, darkness, gloom, turmoil, and sorrow abound.

Evo Morales, Bolivia’s current president, gushed promises of changes. Though proven to be empty, people believed him. But why is it so difficult to believe when God makes a promise?

The answer is simple; we make the choice. If we choose God’s law as the ruling force, with confidence, we can expect blessings. Success, peace, and prosperity will follow.

Whether ruling a nation, running a company, heading a household, or caring for toddlers, we all have the right to choose the source for our knowledge and insight—our own wisdom, random books, popular insights, accumulated information…or God’s Word.

“All your sons will be taught by the Lord, and great will be your children’s peace” (Isaiah 54:13).

Praying we let the Lord teaches the truth of His Word, the power of His ruling, and the grace to carry us through dark times.
