Behind the scenes of The Time Of My Life

This post isn't really about promoting my book,TheTime Of My Life, but about the reason why I wrote it. The story first began to bloom in the February of my oldest son's seventh grade year. His younger brother's best friend had just comeover to spend the night with us and his mother mentioned that she had just signed Jacob up to run track with the local youth sports organization. Ian responded to Shannon's comment with "I want to run track!" We hadn't known he was interested in running- but we signed both kids up to run.

The first practice had Ian designated as a distance runner- he would be running the 800m. the 1600m and the 3200m, as well as the four by eight relay. We soon found out our son loved to run. Not just liked it. Loved. By his 8th grade year he was a county champion. High school found him running cross country and track, sometimes getting up early enough to be at a 5:30 am practices. Spending weekends at running events quickly took over our weekends and some week day evenings. After Ian entered high school and Payton as still running community track my husband and I would often divide and conquer to be at two meets that ran concurrently.

A state championship, several varsity letters and a couple of regional titles later, my oldest son who loves to run is approaching graduating from high school. My book is about a young man who like my son loves to run. The idea would never have come had my sonnot discovered a sport he loved. This week, about six years to the day of signing him up to run we were visiting colleges that he might run for. This track season, his last in high school will see him competing for the time of his life...a personal record for his high school career. I look forward to seeing what he can do at the college level, and what his younger brother will do his last two years in high school.

I dedicated my book to my sons, who showed me that running is more than just exercise.
