The Book Marketing Network

For book/ebook authors, publishers, & self-publishers

Before last week, I hardly knew what twitter was. But everywhere my fellow authors were posting about tweeting. I admit that while I signed up for a twitter account on my own, I had to enlist my seventeen year old son to actually understand how to do it. He taught me how to hashtag (I didn't know, for example, that you don't space between the words in a hashtag.).But we were both surprised how many suggestive women starting following. (Perhaps they think The Time Of My Life refers to something other than running the 800 meter?) I am learnuing how to block people now as well.

What I've learned so far: Sometimes as soon as you tweet you get a new follower. Sometimes they aren't exactly who you might want following you. Sometimes they are. Most people have a lot more followers than I do. Its fun, but I don't really know how to use it as a marketing tool.

I believe in my book, but the marketing is tough. I don't think like a marketer. But, as a "displaced" teacher, that's my full time job until the six months my husband and I agreed I could take to try to make it work expires. (One month of that is gone and no sales to speak of.)

I guess I need to go tweet, tweet, tweet.

Lynn,

I agree. Marketing can be tough. We all know how important it is to get our names out there. But, what's the best way to do that?

John's article gave lots of good suggestions for Twitter but,  personally, I'm more comfortable with sites like this one, GoodReads and Face Book. I do tweet my weekly blog posts and any big announcements about my novel and, if I happen to see an interesting article written by someone I follow, I read it and comment. That's about the extent of my Twitter experience. Maybe, as time goes by, I'll get more involved on the site.

Best of luck with your book!
