Follow Me, Friend Request, Add me now

As we enter into another decade it is easy to see that social networking has changed the face of this world. There is so much emphasis on gaining followers, friends, buddy lists, and contacts that I believe people lose sight of what is the truth. For years politicians, leaders, and celebrities have embraced a world that follows them and supports them when they are up and shuns them when they are down. The truth is they understand that with followers motive is the key and in this world nobody can understand motive like Jesus Christ.
Jesus had a ministry on earth that lasted for a three year time span. During his earthly ministry he healed the sick, he raised the dead, he opened the eyes of the blind, and he fed thousands of people.
As a result many people loved Jesus Christ and thousands of people followed him. Jesus understood that out of those thousands of people that followed only a few truly loved him and were following him because they believed in him. Many of the people that followed Jesus Christ were only following because they hoped to gain something. There were people that followed Jesus for food, status and to get healed. Judas Iscariot was in Jesus inner circle a chosen disciple of his twelve yet he followed Jesus for financial gain. Jesus said many words and invited many people to follow him and many did but only a few of the people were truly listening to what he had to say. The remarkable thing about Jesus Christ which separates him is that he remained true to who he was. He didn’t changed the words he said or make apologies for his actions like many people do today just to please his followers. Jesus lost many followers because of his actions and the words he said but he was unwilling to conform.
In one week people were praising Jesus and laying palm branches before him in the streets singing Hosanna and by the end of the week the same people were shouting crucify him. I challenge everybody today to follow Jesus Christ because you love him and not because of what he can do for you. If you follow Jesus only because what he offers you then you will find yourself disowning Jesus when things don’t go according to your plans. I also challenge all of you to stay true to what you believe and who you are because many people change according to what benefits them. For instance you may love Jesus with all of your heart and you may find yourself under heavy scrutiny on these social networks or blogs. Don’t conform how you feel to please the people who comment or follow you because at the end of the day you will have gained an internet follower but you would have lost a piece of your relationship with Jesus. Stay true to who you are and follow Christ because you love him not because he is a good trending topic, or has Facebook and MySpace connections that can benefit you. Examine your motives behind your behavior and let your true light shine even if people don’t find it appealing.-Amen
For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?-mark 8:36
