Today I watched Tiger Woods come from behind in a stunning victory at Memorial Tournament. When he wins, he makes it seem so simple; sometimes I feel as if I can play golf too. I cannot. Part of his talent, I'm sure, is hereditary. After all, he's played the game since he was a toddler. What always strikes me is that although Tiger makes it seem easy, he works extremely hard at ensuring he is consistently great. He sets his alarm for 5am every day and his typical day lasts from 6:30am - 7pm, where he strives to ensure consistency in a sport he has already mastered.

Service, like golf is simple. We know when we have had a good experience and remember far longer the poor experiences. In order to deliver excellent service it's necessary to hire service-oriented people, who have a passion for exceeding expectations. However, hard work is what is going to ensure those experiences are delivered consistently. By working at our craft in order to ensure reliability, and showing the same passion for delivering excellent experiences again and again, we truly are able to differentiate ourselves and the companies we work for.

Yes, service is simple. But it also takes hard work, training, alignment and reinforcement in order to ensure consistency. Winning doesn't just happen. But it's worth the work.
