An excuse is usually given in order to justify an action or to shift the blame for a deed done. A kid forgets his homework and the kid tells the teacher his dog ate it. This practice is known as the blame game or
passing the buck and it can be traced back to the original man and woman Adam
and Eve. When God asked Adam about the sinful act committed in the garden Adam
pointed at Eve. When God questioned Eve she pointed at the serpent and the
serpent had nobody to blame but himself. The fact is they were all wrong and
shifting blame or giving an excuse to justify your sin doesn’t get you off the
hook. Jesus Christ came that all of our
wrongs may be justified through his sacrifice but still many people refuse to
accept his offer (Romans 3:24-28).

There are many ways that people have been deceived to try and justify or make right their actions themselves. The most common of these practices is using the word of God to justify a sinful act. The Bible records
the history of mans sinful acts and people give excuses such as Abraham was
drunk and God blessed him so it is okay for me to be a drunkard. David
committed adultery and Solomon had 1000 women so it is okay for me to live my
life as they did. Jacob hustled his brother Esau for an inheritance so it is
okay for me to scam others and the list goes on. How sad it is when people take
the Holy word of God and use it to partake in sin. Believe the word of God when
it says God will not be mocked but everyone will pay for the sins they commit
(Galatians 6:7).

Every person in the word of God that did wrong all received punishment for their actions and those mistakes and punishments were recorded for us that we may learn not to do them. David was punished severely and the
sword never left his house. His children fought constantly for his throne and
death and chaos became the story of his life. Noah had to curse his son’s
genealogy for his drunkenness and the Canaanites became servants to their
brethren. Jacob experienced the heartbreak of losing his son Joseph for many
years after his sons followed in his deceitful footsteps. Solomon paid the
biggest price of them all as he lost his relationship with God altogether. We
look at the mistakes of people to justify our actions but are we willing to
accept the consequences. How much greater will our consequences be when we presumptuously
commit sinful acts and give the excuse that people in the bible have done this.
The only excuse we have from our sin is the blood of Jesus Christ and that
sacrifice is made available for us when we become accountable to God for our
sins. We can no longer justify our sins and make excuses to God for our
actions. We must examine our faults and be honest enough with God to admit that
we are to blame for our sins. People say all the time its okay God knows my
heart but do they know the heart of God?

There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.-Proverbs 14:12
