Aged former deputy Jack Bonner turned bounty hunter pursues Joe Snipes into Crossroads, a new remote small, town in western Texas.  There is a thousand dollar bounty on Snipes’ head for murder and robbery.  When confronted in a saloon, Snipes chooses to resist rather than surrender.  Jack Bonner shoots and wounds Snipes. 

Crossroads has no law enforcement so Jack Bonner wants to keep Snipes alive until he can get the man to a law official to claim his reward.
